Years ago, I found myself inside the walls of the Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in London, UK—not as a visitor, but as a lay resident. I wasn’t there for a break. I was there because I needed something deeper, something real.

A vow of silence serves as a sacred commitment to the transformative power of stillness and inner contemplation, inviting retreat attendees to embark on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual awakening in the sanctuary of silence.
At our retreat, we kindly request that guests maintain a serene atmosphere by refraining from communication with one another, including minimal eye contact, and refraining from touching others. In the spirit of embracing silence, we also ask that guests refrain from using books, phones, or music during their stay. While this guideline may initially seem strict, it's intended to help you fully immerse yourself in the present moment and avoid distractions from your authentic experiences.
However, we wholeheartedly encourage journaling as a means of self-expression and reflection during your retreat. Feel free to capture your thoughts, insights, and reflections in your journal as you embark on your journey of self-discovery and inner exploration. This practice can deepen your connection to yourself and enhance your overall experience of tranquility and renewal.
