Born and raised in vibrant South Africa, my adventures took me across the pond to the UK where I worked and lived for 16 years before immigrating to Canada in 2016.
I have always held strong views about the Western healthcare system being too diagnosis-focused. Typically, it's all about managing symptoms and dis-ease, with far too much hand-holding from big pharma.
I knew there had to be a better way to treat people as MULTI-DIMENSIONAL BEINGS, not just a diagnostic code in the DSM-5.
In 2018 I decided to "DITCH THE DIAGNOSIS" and pivot from qualified Forensic Psychologist to Integrative Health & Wellness Therapist. I use evidence-based integrative therapies like Counselling-Hypnotherapy, Mentoring & Spiritual Psychology, and Adventure Therapy. Training with the international renowned Marisa Peer allowed me to become one of Canada's first certified Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) Associates in 2020.
Clients love my humour and no-sugarcoating approach. They describe my style as bold yet gentle, non-judgmental, and deeply attuned and intuitive. They feel seen and safe in our sessions. I’m the therapist for those wanting more than conventional therapy—more connection, more than what your standard insurance dictates you have access to
When I am not in session, helping clients, with groundbreaking therapy techniques and exciting resources, REAL LIFE PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS, and unconventional integrative resources to help them change their situation, you can find me blowing off steam at mixed martial arts or seeking adventures and exciting new experiences with my wife, two kids, and a dog, in Ontario, Canada where we now live.
I am an adventurer at heart and my all-time favourite adventures include swimming with pigs, sharks, and dolphins in the Bahamas, traveling around places with ancient history, like England, South Africa, China, Egypt, and Europe, flying in helicopters and parasailing, driving army tanks & monster trucks, downhill skiing, dog sledding, building igloos and taking ice baths.
With the weighing scales in my zodiac sign (Libra), balance is an integral part of my being. As much as I love excitement and adventure, I recalibrate and restore my energy in the peace and tranquility of nature, like weekends spent at our lakeside retreat, kayaking, bonfires on the beach, meditating in the cabana or just lazing in a hammock, soaking up natures elements.
By combining elements drawn from different schools of psychological theory and research, integrative therapy becomes a MORE FLEXIBLE AND INCLUSIVE approach to treatment than more traditional, singular therapy.
It is more inclusive of the client than traditional forms of therapy, where the client plays a less active role in treatment.
Integrative therapists consider the individual characteristics, preferences, needs, physical abilities, spiritual beliefs, and motivation levels of their clients and use their professional judgment to decide the best approach to therapy for each client.
Different approaches are used consecutively throughout different stages of the therapeutic process, or they may be used as a single combined form of therapy throughout.
A therapist’s specific method of integrating approaches depends on their individual educational background, skills, and experience.
